"But they are just in first grade why do you....." All educators who teach young children hear this every year. How can your students do this/learn this/achieve this? It is because I have set high expectations for my students. I know, especially after a decade of teaching this age group, that these children are "just first graders". That means: they want to learn about literally everything, they can reach any milestone we set in front of them with positive support, they are so funny, they are incredibly intelligent, when parents of any school aged child work with their child's teacher there is nothing that child cannot accomplish and yes they can learn and do know so much more than we think they do. These tiny humans are extraordinary! You are your child's first educator and the most important person in their life.
